UN chief criticizes not implementing Eritrea, Ethiopia agreement
Eritrea-Ethiopia, Politics, 1/18/2001

The UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has criticized both Eritrea and Ethiopia because they bargain details of the both agreement they signed in December 2000 instead of implementing it.

News reports quoted Annan as saying in a report he had submitted to the UN Security Council on Tuesday evening that the two sides have not yet agreed on a way to withdraw their forces from the front lines in order to find out a separation zone between their two territories after two years of war.

Annan added that any of the two neighbouring countries have not signed agreements concerning their forces so as to determine dates for the re-deployment of the UN peace keeping forces along their joint borders.

Annan accused the two countries of provoking ( war of words).

Worthy mentioning that both Ethiopia and Eritrea signed on December 12, 2000 in Algiers a peace agreement ending the war between the two countries.
