King Mohammed meets Moroccan community in Libya
Libya-Morocco, Politics, 1/17/2001
Morocco's King Mohammed VI met in Tripoli Wednesday with representatives of the Moroccan community settled in Libya and decorated a number of them with various wissams (decorations).
The decorated members expressed pride for the lofty royal gesture which is, they said, a tribute to all the Moroccan community in Libya.
Nearly 100,000 Moroccan expatriates are settled in Libya and work in tourism, trade, education, construction and liberal professions. Their remittances amounted to 47.8 million DH (about $ 4.7 million) in 1999 representing 0.2 % of overall remittances by Moroccans settled abroad.
On the second day of his official visit to Libya, King Mohammed VI also received separately Seif Al Islam, son of the Libyan leader and secretary (minister) of the Libyan general popular committee of African unity, Ali Abdesslam Triki.
Triki was accompanied by several Libyan officials including the minister of justice.
