Gambian official says OAU committed error with admission of ghost entity
Morocco-Gambia, Politics, 1/16/2001
Speaker of the Gambian national assembly, Mustapha Wadda, said here Monday the Organization of African Unity (OAU) has breached international legality when it granted membership to a ghost entity, the so-called Sahrawi republic.
The Gambian official who was meeting speaker of the chamber of advisors (upper legislative body), Mustapha Okacha, hoped the Organization would correct its error so that Morocco recovers its natural place at the OAU. This would enable the OAU resume the political radiance it has lost since Morocco's withdrawal, he said.
Morocco walked out of the organization in 1984 to protest the admission of a puppet republic which claims the independence of the kingdom's southern provinces.
The Gambian official also agreed with speaker of the house of representatives (lower chamber), Abdelouahed Radi, to carry on coordination in international forums to serve the interests of the two African countries and promote development, peace and democracy issues in Africa.
Wadda, who arrived on Saturday in Morocco, met Prince Moulay Rachid. He also conferred with heads of political groups in the parliament.
