Mossad spy trial started
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 1/15/2001

The Supreme State Security Court began its first session to try defendant Sherif Fawzi Al Filali on charges of spying for the Israeli Mossad.

At the beginning, the prosecutor recited the bill of indictment, which contain charges of espionage with agents working for Israel to undermine the country's national interests.

The State Security Prosecution pleaded that charges of espionage are unbeatable against Filali and his Russian partner Gregory Javins, a Mossad agent at large.

The defence gave 17 requests, most of which the court overruled, and sustained only six requests.

After 1.5 hours' deliberations, the court adjourned the case to the February 11 session.
