Iraq-USA, Politics, 1/15/2001
An aviation department source has stated that former US justice secretary Ramsi Clarck arrived on Saturday evening in Baghdad from Amman on board of a Royal Jordanian airlines plane in a gesture of solidarity with Iraq against the sanctions imposed on it since 10 years.
The source said that Clarck arrived together with 50 American activists who oppose the continue international sanctions on Baghdad. These American represent several American humanitarian organizations from several States. They said they have come to Baghdad to inspect the consequences of the sanctions.
An aviation source in Amman stressed that the Jordanian Royal airlines got the consent of the UN sanctions committee to carry out this flight, SANA reported.
In a statement circulated on January 5th, Clarck stressed that this flight is a defiance to the air embargo imposed on Baghdad on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the beginning of the Gulf war.
Clarck had visited Iraq many times since the Gulf 1990-1991 and described the embargo as a violation of human rights and an act of extermination.
