Peace holds key to ME development
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 1/13/2001

Egyptian Presidential Political Advisor, Osama el-Baz Thursday expected a Palestinian-Israeli peace pact in the half of this year to be followed by another between Syria and Israel.

"Peace is not a Luxury. It holds the key to the development process in the world," Baz stressed, adding that Egypt had no peacekeepers in the Kosovo sites where depleted uranium weapons were used during a NATO bombing campaign against Yugoslavia.

"The world is required now to stand firmly against the proliferation and development of nuclear and biological weapons," he said, stressing that Egypt had no weapons of mass destruction and demanded countries possessing such arms to take positive steps to phase them out.

Asked to comment on Israel's nuclear power, he cited deliberate leaks on this power. "Israel does not even allow its nuclear installations to be inspected. So, no one can tell for sure the extent of Israel's nuclear power," he added.
