Mubarak-Arafat review attempts to save peace process
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 1/13/2001
Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak and Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat yesterday probed the outcome of recent contacts to save the peace process and the Palestinian-Israeli security arrangements.
Arafat Thursday demanded Israel to accurately and honestly enforce the agreement reached during the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit last October.
In remarks he made in Gaza, the Palestinian Leader said that Israeli measures to ease a blockade on Palestinians were inadequate.
"What is required is the accurate and honest implementation of what was agreed on at Sharm el-Sheikh," he told reporters.
A Palestinian-Israeli meeting was held Wednesday night to curb tensions which have been mounting since September 28.
Moreover, Arafat, in statements to the Egyptian television, said he briefed President Mubarak on the outcome of the Arab Follow-Up Committee meetings in Tunisia and his meeting with King Mohamed VI of Morocco.
"Nobody could suppress the Palestinian people," Arafat said, praising the Palestinians as the people of heroes.
