Obstacles impeding the Saudi- Egyptian free trade agreement
Saudi Arabia-Egypt, Economics, 1/13/2001
Sources at the Saudi foreign ministry said that Riyadh has asked the Egyptian side to eliminate obstacles facing national exports in order to be able to sign the agreement to establish a free trade area between the two states.
The source explained that these obstacles were discussed during the meetings of the Saudi- Egyptian joint committee on bilateral cooperation and it was agreed to study these impediments through a technical committee. The source added that what was proposed by Saudi Arabia was greatly welcomed by the Egyptian side which showed readiness to eliminate them through the meetings of the technical committee.
For its part Egyptian sources said that the main obstacles which prevent the realization of a final agreement to establish the free trade area are: the certificate of origin, similarities of exports frames, adjustment of legislation and other legal frames so as to give an impetus for the joint economic work.
