Positive development in Bkerky stances towards Syria
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 1/13/2001

The Lebanese daily al-Mustaqbil said on its Friday's issue quoting sources close to the former Lebanese minister Fuad Butrous that the trend of dialogue between Bkerky and Damascus is proceeding for further positive development.

The sources explained that after patriarch Sfeir was briefed with the talks held between Butrous and President Bashar al-Assad, Butrous, in an agreement with Sfeir started to hold a series of meetings away from limelight with the representatives of the Christian political trends with no exception and listened to their readings and observations.

The sources added that in line of these meetings Butrous regularly meets with the patriarch and figures associated with him with the aim to co-ordinate stances and then crystallize a concept according to which Butrous will be able to head for Damascus once again and meet with President al-Assad for further discussion.
