Concerted efforts for Sudanese Reconciliation Conference
Sudan-Egypt, Politics, 1/10/2001

Upon his arrival to Khartoum, Foreign Minister, Moussa told reporters that he was carrying a message from President Mubarak to President Bashir to congratulate him on his victory in presidential elections for a second term in office.

The message tackled bolstering Egypt-Sudan cooperation in all domains as well.

On activating the Egypt-Libya joint peace plan and Cairo's suggestions on that score, Moussa said that the initiative had to come over complex issues and changes that have lately emerged.

Moussa said that it was agreed to establish an Egyptian-Sudanese follow-up committee to hold meetings on a biannual basis.

Speaking to MENA late Monday at the end of talks with his Sudanese counterpart Mustafa Ismail, Moussa said they discussed promoting bilateral relations and reviewed decisions taken during the joint ministerial committee meetings, held in Cairo in September.

Moussa said that talks also touched on the regional and arab situation, the situation in Somalia and the Egyptian-Libyan initiative for national reconciliation in Sudan.

Bashir will meet with Moussa Tuesday morning where Moussa will hand him a message from Mubarak.

Moussa said there are efforts exerted at present to hold an all-out reconciliation conference that would group all Sudanese parties.

"We believe that the joint peace plan is going on the right track," he said.

"There are many ideas, and they come as one of the goals of this visit," Moussa said.

And on the four-way Egypt-Libya-Sudan-Uganda meeting, to be held in Tripoli to normalize Uganda-Sudan relations, Moussa said there are plans to hold three-and-four-way meetings to counter standing challenges.

Earlier Foreign Minister Amr Moussa and his accompanying delegation left Cairo Monday for Khartoum on a two-day visit to Sudan within a tour that will also take him to Saudi Arabia and Tunisia.

Moussa added that he will fly soon to Riyadh where he will co-chair' with his Saudi opposite number Prince Saoud Al-Faisal, the meetings of the joint Egyptian-Saudi higher committee that discusses the vistas of economic, trade and technical cooperation between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

The Foreign Minister said that he will then head for Tunisia Wednesday to participate in the Arab follow-up committee's 3rd session, to be held there under Egypt's presidency to discuss the current situation of the peace process in light of the recent US proposals presented for the Palestinian and Israeli sides.
