Abdul Hameed al-Sayeh dies of a heart attack

Former chairman of the Palestinian National Council Abdul Hameed al-Sayeh died on Tuesday at one of Amman's hospitals following a heart attack.

The Palestinian authority charge de affairs in Amman said in a statement that al-Sayeh's family who died at the age of ( almost 100 year old) wants to transport his body to Jerusalem to be buried there.

The Palestinian authority had eulogized al-Sayeh who was the first chairman for the higher Islamic commission in Jerusalem and the first Palestinian to be expelled from the Palestinian territories after its occupation of the West bank and Gaza in 1967 and never approved his return back.

Al-Sayeh presided over the Palestinian national council since 1984 until 1993 when he decided to quit this post in protest of the Palestinian positions towards the peace process.

He started his practical life as an Arabic language teacher and then a judge in Nablus and Jerusalem and then he became a chairman for the court of Appeal before the Israeli occupation in 1967.
