Syrian - Jordanian security cooperation on return of Jordanians
Syria-Jordan, Politics, 1/10/2001
The Jordanian weekly al-Bilaad quoted in its recent issue, well-informed Jordanian sources as saying that at the directives of the Jordanian King Abdullah II, the Jordanian ministry of the Interior and the public department for the Jordanian intelligence started to expand in permitting the return back of Jordanians of members of the army who left the country with the Palestinian fighters ( Fedayeen) following the events of September 1970 ( black September) to each of Syria and Lebanon.
These sources explained that the door has become open before all Jordanians who desire to return back, noting that " the Syrian authorities and in the course of cooperation and security coordination between the two countries started to permit the Jordanians to return back to their homeland and to facilitate this process after the approval of the Jordanian authorities, being members of the Jordanian army or the Fedayeen ( Freedom fighters)."
In this respect, the Syrian authorities released Jordanian prisoners held for different imprisonment sentences in the Syrian jails.
Member of the Jordanian parliament Assaf al-Assaf who is reparatteur for the Freedoms committee at the Jordanian parliament told al-Bilaad that he personally facilitated the return back of the former military man Ali Abdul Miguid Mahmoud Afanah and his family. He explained that Afanah and his family have restored back all their political and social rights. Afanah added that Mrs Nasrin Abd Rabbu Hassan also returned back to Jordan although she does not have any document what proves her nationalist except that she is from Gaza and she was born in Lebanon.
Parliament member al-Assaf also facilitated the return back of Mrs. Feryal Youssef Abu Labda to visit her ill mother. Feryal's brother asked for her visit for one week but the Jordanian minister of the Interior approved to give her a two- week time and the consent was given on December 3rd.
