Clashes continue, Palestinians refuse American proposals
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 1/9/2001

Confrontations continued in the occupied Arab territories with the escalation of the Palestinian rejection to the American proposals which is viewed as violating Palestinian rights. The Palestinian Abdul Hameed al-Kharti ( 34 year old) was killed on Monday and other Palestinians were wounded by the Israeli bullets.

Despite the tightened siege against the West Bank and Gaza, the Palestinian Intifada youths continued their attacks using stones and bullets on the Israeli forces and positions adjoining the settlements. The villages of Ramullah witnessed strong confrontations during which the Israeli soldiers intensively opened fire, and similar clashes took place in Khan Younis area.

Israeli soldiers who accompanied Israeli reporters tried to break into al-Aqsa mosque at a time when Jerusalem's Mufti Sheikh Ikramah Sabri was holding a press conference. The guards of the mosque from the " Islamic Waqf" challenged the Israeli soldiers and reporters and prevented them from breaking into the hall where the conference was held. On Monday evening one Israeli settler woman broke into al-Aqsa mosque disguising in an Arab uniform and she was arrested immediately and the Israeli radio gave no mention on details of this incident.

Sheikh Ikramah stressed that any non- Islamic sovereignty on al-Aqsa mosque is forbidden with all parts of the mosque including al- Buraq wall to the west of the mosque.

The Fatwa Reads: Muslims are forbidden to enable non- Muslims to supervise or serve or arrange arrangements for rituals and prayers at al-Aqsa Mosque or any part of it or form its land or beneath it. Muslim Scholars unanimously state that the land on which the mosque is built is an Islamic Waqf, its upper, parts internal side walls, squares trees and all utilities. A matter which is undoubtedly applicable on al-Aqsa mosque.

Meantime, the Fatah movement denounced the American proposals to make a settlement, noting that these proposals only serve Israel.

In a statement the Movement stressed the rejection of the Palestinians public as a whole to give up any of the national rights in Jerusalem, the return back home and the sovereign independent state.

The founder of the Hamas movement Sheikh Ahmad Yassin said that the whole palestinian street unanimously reject the American proposals which aim at liquidating the cause of Palestine. He said: " Our choice is to continue resistance and withstand the continued Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian people."
