Saudi foreign minister denies news on efforts failure over three islands
Saudi Arabia-Iran, Politics, 1/9/2001
The Saudi foreign minister prince Saud al-Faisal has denied news on the failure of the tripartite committee formed to discuss the question of the three islands between the United Arab Emirates and Iran.
In a statement to the Saudi daily al-Watan issued on Monday, the Saudi foreign minister added that that one of the " sides," which is Iran did not agree to avail the chance to make direct negotiations. He stressed that the International court of justice is the best means to settle the problem if the negotiations will not be conducted directly.
In its recent summit held in al-Manama, the Gulf Cooperation council GCC called on Iran to halt its military maneuvers in Abu Mousa islands and voiced backing to the proposal to debate this issue on the International security court.
