Associations decry gap between anti-corruption official discourse and measures
Morocco, Politics, 1/6/2001
A group of anti-corruption associations decried on Friday the existing gap between official discourses against corruption and concrete measures.
In a press conference held on the eve of the national anti-corruption day, the associations noted the lack of governmental practical measures against corruption in the past year, arguing that intentions should be supported with judiciary and administrative reforms and with actions to fight corruption, favoritism and nepotism.
They also stressed that while corruption-awareness campaigns staged in schools in 2000 were successful the performance of the national anti-corruption committee set up in 1999 did not match its announced aspirations.
For "Transparency-Maroc," the situation requires the creation of a specialized agency enjoying extended powers and means to fulfill prevention actions. The association announced it will conduct investigations on corruption and carry on the "art for transparency" experience.
