Morocco, Economics, 1/5/2001

Moroccan premier, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, urged on Thursday the cabinet to give more dynamism to the government performance and grant priority to developing infrastructure and support productive sectors, in implementation of Royal guidelines outlined last Dec.21.

Youssoufi read out during a cabinet meeting a message calling the government for further mobilization, action and coherence to make of 2001 a year of economic takeoff, growth and investments.

He also stressed ongoing projects should be activated and priority should be given to economic infrastructure projects, such as industrial zones, tourism projects, fisheries, housing, and highways. He also told ministers to intensify efforts for the development of the rural world and new information and communication technologies.

Expenses of state enterprises should be rationalized and respectful of transparency, he added.

To boot investments, he went on, administrations should rethink their relations with citizens and investors, announcing that appropriate investment bodies will be set up shortly at the national and regional levels. These bodies will be endeavoring to level down difficulties and ease various procedures related to investments.

He added that efforts need to be continued to end social conflicts, including the inception of a new labor code and compulsory health coverage laws.

The minister also insisted on a rational human resources management that offers opportunities to creative skills and equal chances to men and women.
