Government council sets up commission to follow-up implementation of royal guidelines
Morocco, Economics, 1/5/2001

Morocco's Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi chaired in Rabat Thursday the weekly government council which tackled implementation of royal guidelines and heard exposés on fishery talks with the European Union and a draft bill meant to promote Moroccan tourism.

After the council meeting, culture and communication minister Mohamed Achaari told the press the premier read out a letter to his cabinet members on orientations by the king on December 23 to re-energize government action and how debates were crowned by the setting up of an inter-departmental commission chaired by Youssoufi to see to implementation of the new guidelines.

Fishery minister Said Chbaatou reported on fishery talks with the European Union saying that political discussions this week in Rabat with European agriculture and fishery commissioner Franz Fischler tried to bridge the gap between stands and provide experts with the framework to fine-tune technical aspects of the agreement. He insisted on the provisional nature of any fishing opportunities granted as a transient favor to help EU restructure its fleet saying the kingdom means to reconsider financial compensation.

The council also covered a draft bill meant to reconsider rating of hotels and other tourism facilities to cope up with rapid development in the sector worldwide and decided to further discuss the text before adoption in another government meeting.
