A row in the Jordanian parliament over evacuation of the Palestinians
Jordan-Palestine, Politics, 1/5/2001
Two Jordanian members of parliament have exchanged insults on Wednesday at the parliament and the situation was about to direct fighting between the two unless other parliament members interfered.
This happened after a speech delivered by one of them in which he criticized "Hamas" movement and called for the evacuation of the Palestinians from Jordan.
The row took place when Parliamentarian Ahmad Oweidi al-Abbadi who is known for his stances against the Palestinian presence in Jordan, delivered a speech in which he warned against the dangers of settling the Palestinians in Jordan and called for the return back of all Palestinians to their country as well as not to permit the return back of the Hamas leaders to Jordan.
Al-Abbadi described Hamas leaders as " a danger for Jordan." A matter which provoked several parliament members and pushed the two parliament members Abdullah al-Akaeylah and Khalil Ateyah ( who is the first deputy for the Jordanian parliament) to silence him.
However, al-Abbadi said to al-Akaeylah " if you want to fight go to Palestine and fight and do not stay in Jordan." This, by its turn, pushed Khalil Ateyah to try to attack al-Abbadi but the parliament members prevented that and the two exchanged insulting words.
