Syria-Regional, Politics, 1/4/2001

The Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara met on Wednesday at his residence in Cairo with the Egyptian foreign minister Amr Moussa.

Present at the meeting were the deputy foreign minister Suleiman Haddad and Syria's ambassador in Cairo Youssef Ahmad.

Following the meeting, al-Shara said that there is an American and Israel " misleading" for the Arab side in general and to the Palestinian side in particular, that should not be ignored. He stressed that the Arabs will not befallen as victims of this " misleading" and that a better Arab stand will be reached to eliminate this situation.

Al-Shara explained that his talks with Minister Moussa centered on the need of firm abidance to the Arab summit resolutions and the missions of the follow up committee. He expressed his hope that the Syrian- Egyptian coordination will be positively reflected on the meetings on the meetings of the committee that are due today.

In his meeting with the Lebanese foreign minister Mahmoud Hamoud al-Shara ' exchanged views on conditions in the region and the need of clinging to national principles towards Arab rights and backing the uprising as well as rejecting the Israeli attempts aiming at violating international legitimacy resolutions and undermining the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

Earlier in the day, al-Shara arrived in Cairo to take part in the meetings of the Arab follow up committee.
