Syrian President discusses with the Italian minister of the Interior conditions in the region

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday at the Damascus al- Shaab palace received the Italian minister of the Interior Anzo Bianco and members of the accompanying delegation.

Present at the meeting were the minister of the Interior Muhammad Harba and the Italian ambassador in Damascus.

The President was briefed on the topics debated in the talks held by the visiting minister with Syrian officials. Talks covered the situation in the region. The Italian minister expressed his government's interest to developments of conditions in the region and its readiness to contribute to making peace.

The President welcomed an effective European role to implement international legitimacy resolutions in the region. He said that an active European role in order to attain a just and comprehensive peace is not in contradiction with the individual and collective efforts made to give the ME peace process a push forward.

The Syrian and the Italian sides expressed their desire to develop bilateral relations in all fields.

Earlier in the day, the Syrian prime minister received the Italian minister and his companions.

Talks also dealt with cooperation relations between the two countries and means of developing them in various economic, political and cultural fields and the increase of trade exchange volume for serving joint interests between the two countries.
