Italian minister of interior in Damascus

Italian minister of the Interior Anzo Byanco and members of the accompanying delegation in a visit to Damascus which will last for four days.

At Damascus international airport, the delegation was welcomed by the Minister of the Interior Muhammad Harba, ministry officials and the Italian ambassador in Damascus.

During its visit, the delegation will hold talks with Harba after which an agreement will be signed on co-operation in the area of fighting organized crime and fighting drug.

The Italian delegation will also visit several country's archaeological sites in Damascus, Homs and Idleb.

In an arrival statement, the Italian minister expressed his happiness to visit Syria for the first time. He said that his visit aims at asserting feelings of friendship linking the Syrian and Italian peoples and ties of bilateral co-operation.

As for relations between Syria and Italy he said that these relations are excellent and an example to be followed and that " I have come here to confirm this." He added that Italy sees in Syria a friendly and important state and desires to develop relations with it. He added that the two sides will sign an agreement pertaining to cooperation in the area of fighting crime and drug trafficking.

He concluded as saying: " we are looking forward for an immediate and prompt cooperation between the ministries of the interior in the two countries, to this effect."
