Sudan, Politics, 12/23/2000
The deputy chairman of the People's Congress party Sheikh Ibrahim al-Sanousi, the party which is led by Hassan al-Turabi has said that the presidential and parliamentary elections which were concluded on Friday evening in Sudan is " a low comedy," to which the people did not pay attention because hey were preoccupied to living conditions and religious matters during the holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement to the Sudanese daily al-Sahafa issued Saturday in al-Khartoum, al-Sanousi added that these elections, parliamentary or presidential were not convincing and therefore the turnout was weak which only reached 7% despite all " attracting or terrifying measures" taken to this effect.
