Peace with Israel conditional on ceding Arab territories

Osama A1-Baz, Egypt's Presidential Political Advisor said the statements given by Colin Powell, the Secretary of State in the new Bush Administration on Israel and its security do not trouble us as they are meant for local consumption since he is a farsighted man who believes in scientific techniques in tackling issues.

At his meeting with citizens gathering in the Islamic Thought Forum in Al-Hussein district, Baz said Israel's security will not be a national assignment of the United States, if Americans felt that their stance and interests were threatened in the Middle East since U.S. support for Israel is neither categorical nor external as somebody imagine.

He said that the new U.S. Administration is in need of considering the situation in the Middle East, adding that the United States discovered in many occasions that its stance supportive of Israel was harmful to its interests.

He said sorrowful incidents faced by U.S. nationals in various parts of the world mainline Islamic countries is a reaction to the U.S. prejudice against Islamic interests.

He said that the fated visit by Sharon to Al-Aqsa Mosque has damaged Israel's stance at the various levels, adding that the status of Jerusalem is not negotiable, referring to resolutions taken by the Arab and Islamic Summit which underlined that Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine and hence it should not be ceded as it concerns Muslims and not only Palestinians.
