Spanish fishing professionals set for new boycott campaign of Moroccan products
Morocco-Spain, Economics, 12/18/2000
Professional organizations of seamen and ship owners in Andalusia (southern Spain) have decided to launch starting Dec.25 a new campaign to block the passage of Moroccan products transiting Spain in their way to Europe.
They threatened these actions will go on until a fisheries agreement that suits their interests is concluded with Morocco.
The Andalusian federations of fishermen associations and corporations called the rest of Spanish ports to join their actions and called Spanish and European negotiators to spare no effort to reach before end of the year with Morocco an agreement that serves their interests. They also called the government to use "retaliation" measures, such as stiffening health control measures against products transiting the Spanish ports.
The attitude was supported by the Labor Commission trade union (CC.OO) which called fishermen to oppose by all means the entry of Moroccan fish products to Spanish ports.
