Egyptian parliament discusses economic boycott of Israel
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 12/18/2000

The Egyptian parliament has officially on Sunday started its works by listening to a speech read by the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in the joint session by the Egyptian People's Assembly and the Shoura council, marking the beginning of convening the ordinary session of the parliament.

On top of works of the new council's agenda due to be started immediately after Eid al-Fiter holiday is the use of the Arab boycott weapon of Israel and to send an urgent statement to the boycotting offices calling on them to tighten the weapon of economic boycott.

In a statement to the London- based al-Sharq al-Awsat daily issued on Sunday, the chairman of the Arab affairs committee at the Egyptian parliament Hamad Abu Zeid said that the committee also study the possibility of using the oil weapon if conditions will require so.

Abu Zeid added that the committee will shortly call for convening plenary meetings in sectors of importers and exporters to assure this boycott in the course of the rejection voiced by the Israeli government and people of Israel's brutal acts against the Palestinian people.
