Human rights body sues Rabat-Salé Wilaya
Morocco, Culture, 12/15/2000
The Moroccan Human Rights Association (AMDH) on Thursday said it will sue the Rabat-Salé Wilaya for having banned a sit-in the association was intending to stage in front of the parliament on Dec. 9.
The association said it will claim a symbolic compensation of 1 Dirham.
Banning the sit-in was unconstitutional, the association said, adding that motivating the ban decision by security considerations has no legal foundation.
Members of the association said at a press conference AMDH president, Abderrahmane Benameur and several members of the association's central bureau were arrested besides 42 other members. These people are now sued for "participation in a non-authorized gathering on public way."
