Moroccan senate winds up 2001 draft finance bill scrutiny

The House of Advisors (upper house) is meeting in plenary sessions this Friday to wrap debates on the draft finance bill for the year 2001, a house release said.

The house will convene in an afternoon session and a night session to discuss and vote some sectoral budgets and the draft budget as a whole.

Majority parties see the proposed budget as "positive" despite constraints Morocco comes to grips with saying it shows the government's resolve to give new life to the economic and social sectors. Social sectors, indeed, get $ 4.27 billion USD which is 45 PC of the general budget.

Opposition groups see as "not enough" government measures in the 2001 budget in favor of rural development, alleviation of tax pressure and debt recovery.
