Qatar foils an Israeli attempt to assassinate Khaled Mashaal
Qatar-Israel, Politics, 12/15/2000

Arab diplomatic sources unveiled on Thursday a new Israeli plan to assassinate the chairman of the political bureau of the Palestinian national resistance movement Hamas Khaled Mashaal.

The same sources told the Lebanese daily al-Mustaqbil on Thursday that the Qatari authorities have expelled three Israeli groups which entered the country with Canadian and Norwegian diplomatic passports in an attempt to carry out the crime of assassination against Mashaal. The sources said that the Israeli plan intended to carry out the assassination during the Islamic summit which was held in Doha or after it.

The Arab sources added that the Qatari authorities treated this matter with top secrecy at that time in order not to disturb the atmosphere of the summit and tighten security arrangements for Hamas officials and informed the Israeli great concern about these schemes.
