Somali leader gives up opposition to President Salat
Somalia, Politics, 12/15/2000

In a positive step to achieve national reconciliation in Somalia, Hussein Haji Joud, one of the prominent leading figues of the former Somali President Ali Mahdi Muhammad in North Makadishu joined the government of President Qasem Salat.

The process of Haji's joining the train of reconciliation was made officially in a joint press conference Muhammad held with President Salat in which he declared that he had decided to give up his opposition to the legal authorities, newly born in Somalia, thanks to the people's general reconciliation in Somalia.

Haji added I have taken my decision after I have realized the difficulties that faces our people, adding " I will back the government morally and materially." President Salad, on the other hand, asked Haji to try to convince the Somali war Lords who are hesitant to cooperate with the legislative authority to respond to the efforts aiming to achieve national agreement and the restoration of stability to Somalia, after ten years of the civil war.
