Teachers unions announce strike suspension

Two trade unions announced on Sunday a Suspension of a strike scheduled to be observed in all education levels this Dec.13-14.

The two unions, the Autonomous Education Federation/affiliated to the UGTM, and the National Education Union, affiliated to the CDT, released a statement following a round of negotiations with the government regarding their grievances.

It was decided to consolidate measures in trade union freedoms, keep up the same pace and serenity in settling the cases of teachers who were suspended or fired, promulgate a new statute for the national education staff that would promote a modern management of human resources and amend the decree regulating compensations.

The government and trade unions also decided to meet again, the soonest, to define the working method and carry on dialogue on the rest of the teachers claims.
