Arab follow-up committee to conduct peace process
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 12/9/2000
Egypt's Foreign Minister Amr Moussa leaves for Damascus Sunday on a two-day visit during which he will participate in the ministerial meeting of the committee to follow-up the resolutions of the Emergency Arab Summit held in Cairo on October 21-22.
A comprehensive review of the current situation in the region and the peace process will be conducted, said Moussa, adding that all measures taken since the convening of the Arab Summit will be reviewed.
Moussa said that this meeting is a monthly one, noting that the committee will hold its next meeting in Tunis in January, to be followed by another in February in the Jordanian capital Amman.
On Egypt's vision in its capacity as the current Chairman of the Arab Summit over the measures recently taken by some Arab states, Moussa said they are good and in the right direction.
On whether the United States is expected to give anything new in the remaining time of US President Bill Clinton's term, Moussa said if they come up with something, that'll be a positive step.
"We view that there is a possibility and it would be good if it reaped fruit although there is hardly time before the current US Administration," said Moussa.
The Ministerial Committee to follow up the summit resolutions comprises Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Tunisia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
