Sudan, Local, 12/9/2000

The Sudanese TV announced on Friday that some 20 persons were killed in attack took place on Friday evening against a mosque in the outskirts of al-Khartoum.

News reports quoted eye-witnesses as saying that earlier that 6 persons at least were killed and other ten wounded in this attack.

The eye-witnesses said that three armed persons attacked a mosque in Um Durman at al-Khartoum district and that the police could kill one of them.

On the other hand, the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir stressed that the freedom provided by al-Inqaz ( salvation government) in the country does not mean weakness and that this government will not be easy in dealing with those who prove to be involved in treason against the country. Al-Bashir added in a massive meeting in Um Durman on Friday evening, that dealing with the " conspiracy controlled by the Sudanese security forces on Wednesday will be firmly and strongly," describing the opposition gathering inside the country as one of the rebellions channels.

Worthy mentioning that the Sudanese security forces had detained seven members of the leadership of the opposition gathering inside the country last Wednesday. The specialized security forces started investigations with them in preparations to bring them before the court at the charges of contacting foreign sides and threatening the country's security and interests.
