Syria-Egypt, Politics, 12/8/2000
The Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara on Wednesday received a telephone call from the Egyptian foreign minister Amr Moussa during which consultations were made on the meeting of the follow up committee due to be held in Damascus on December 10 and 11.
Meantime, the secretary general of the Arab League (AL) Ismat Abdul Miguid discussed with the AL assistant secretaries the report to be submitted by the AL to the Arab ministerial committee in charge of following up the implementation of the Arab summit resolutions due to be held in Damascus next Sunday.
Abdul Miguid stressed the importance of the Damascus meeting amid the continued Israeli brutal aggression against the Palestinian people and the Israeli threats against Syria and Lebanon, noting that these threats reflect the Israeli aggressive attitude, based on military power and occupation.
In statements he made in Cairo on Wednesday, the AL chief called on the Arab states to shoulder their national responsibilities and to move tangibly in order to back the Arab rights and besiege israel economically and politically so as to abide by the requirements of a just and comprehensive peace and withdraw from all occupied Arab lands, including Jerusalem up to June 4, 1967 border lines.
