Egypt to face up to Western concepts of marriage and family relations
Egypt, Culture, 12/7/2000
A number of western countries in the United Nations have responded to pressures by non-governmental organizations calling for codifying extra-marital relations and protecting the rights of homosexuals. Egypt's Ambassador to the United Nations Ahmed Abul-Gheit said the Egyptian delegation has mobilized Islamic and Catholic powers abiding by religious values for confronting western ideas which call for admitting and legitimizing homosexual relations.
Abul-Gheit said Egypt rejects attempts by western countries to impose their values and customs associated with women on all communities without any discrimination.
