Islam in Morocco, more tolerant than in other countries, archbishop says
Morocco, Religion, 12/7/2000

The archbishop of Rabat Hubert Michon said Islam in Morocco is more tolerant than in some other countries and makes cross-religious dialog possible.

The archbishop, living in Morocco since 1957 told MAP the kingdom has always been a crossroad, a land where friendship, fraternity, tolerance and humanism meet. He voiced opposition to all shapes of extremism and said the Islamic and Christian religions could get to know and better understand each other only if they open up and start dialog without relinquishing particularities.

Archbishop Michon recalled how Christians lived in harmony with Muslims in the country since the Roman era insisting saying numbers are not the issue, the important thing being they freely practice and live as their faith requires while enjoying genuine friendship and fraternity ties with the Muslim community.
