Morocco- EU fishery talks postponed to december 12 in brussels
Morocco-European Union, Economics, 12/7/2000
The Moroccan-European Union fishery talk round, initially slated for today and Friday, was postponed till December 12, it was learnt Wednesday in the European capital.
The delay is due to calendar constraints and is in no way connected with difficulty of ongoing talks started in September.
The two sides had agreed to meet on a weekly basis in Rabat and Brussels alternately to pave the way for a balanced partnership in the sector. The meeting last week in Rabat proved difficult with both sides conceding that no real progress was made.
After the round stumbled on duration, the EU requesting 4 to 5 years and Morocco offering 2, head of the Moroccan delegation and secretary general of the fishery department Rhanmi Tijani said Brussels should show more flexibility and partnership drive.
The spokesman of the European commissioner for agriculture and fisheries reacted immediately saying the EU was ready for more compromise in the quest for a fair solution.
