Palestinian uprising continues against occupation

Palestinian sources said on Wednesday that the Israeli occupation forces on Tuesday arrested 10 Palestinians from the two palestinian villages of al-Maghir and Aqraba in the west bank and other three in Jerusalem.

The palestinian prisoner club stressed the Israeli occupation forces arrested more than 500 Palestinians half of them are children under the age of 8 since the eruption of the uprising.

In the course of the oppressive policy conducted by the Israeli against the Palestinians, these authorities closed several Palestinian schools and educational institutes especially in al-Negev after expelling their students and teaching staff.

On the other hand, the International Monetary Fund said that almost 125,000 Palestinian workers, representing 20% of the total Palestinian labor force are facing unemployment because of their inability to reach their work sites as a result of the military and economic siege imposed by the Israeli occupation forces on the occupied Palestinian territories.

On the expansionist Israeli settlement policy, the Israeli daily Haartez said in statistics it issued on Wednesday that number of settlement gathering in the west bank and Gaza increased from 32700 units in 1993 to 51940 units in the current year and that number of settlers in the west bank and Gaza reached by the end of the year 2000 199000 settlers while the number was 176973 settlers in the mid of 1999.

Since the Oslo agreement the Israeli forces erected three new settlements which are " labeid, Keryat Seifer and Manourad" and number of their settlers in 1998 was more than 12212 settlers. Between the year 1996 and 1999 Israeli built on the Palestinian territories some 42 settlement gathering. Statistics said that between 1994- 2000 the israeli army demolished in the West bank and Gaza 740 Palestinian houses. This number does not include the Arab houses in occupied Jerusalem.

Meantime, and in the course of the visit he makes to the region the UN special coordinator Terry Larsen on Wednesday shortened his visit to the old city of Hebron in the west bank after the Israeli forces prevented him from entering the school of Osama Bin Munqiz which the Israeli army had occupied and converted into a military barrack.

On the other hand, the Palestinian official in charge of planning and international cooperation in the palestinian Authority Nabil Shaath expected the international investigations to start on the 10 days of the bloody confrontation in the Palestinian territories on next Monday or Tuesday, saying that the Palestinians will give the committee the freedom of investigation.
