Yemeni president quits commander of naval force
Yemen, Local, 12/7/2000

An official source in Sanaa announced on Wednesday that the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has quitted this week the commander of the Yemeni naval force Ahmad Abdullah al-Hosni.

News reports quoted the official source as saying on Tuesday evening that Maj. Gen. Ruice Abdullah Majoud was appointed as commander for the naval forces and coastal defense instead of Maj. Gen. Ahmad Abdullah al-Hosni who had been acquiring this post since 1994.

The resignation of al-Hosni came two days just from a sudden visit made by the Yemeni President to the base of the Yemeni naval force in al- Hudeidah port and after two months from the attack which targeted the US warship "USS Cole" at Aden port to the Southern part of the country and resulted in killing some 17 American mariners.

Maj. Gen. al-Hosni said after the explosion operation that the volume of destruction which inflicted in the warship indicates the possibility that something was broken inside it and ruled out the hypothesis of being attacked.
