Sudan accusations again US; Human rights reports
Sudan-USA, Politics, 12/7/2000
Sudan's foreign relations minister Mustafa Othman Ismael has accused the US of plans to recruit Sudanese children in the lines of the US mariners.
In statements to the Sudanese daily al-Rai al-Am issued in al-Khartoum on Wednesday Othman added that preliminary information reached the fact- finding commission on evacuation of some 3800 Sudanese children to the US, confirmed that the aim of this evacuation is not to provide shelter for them as claimed by Washington, rather for recruitment.
The Sudanese foreign minister added that the fact finding commission formed by the Sudanese foreign ministry still continues its investigations, collecting information and finding out facts in order to take necessary measures against the American behavior.
However, the UNHCR had started to evacuate some 3800 Sudanese children in collaboration with the US state department under claims to provide them shelters with American families.
On the other hand Othman Ismael described the report released by the UN General Assembly on human rights in Sudan as more positive in comparison to previous reports.
Minister Ismael added that the report includes some positives in its concentration on the political detente and the expansion on the area of freedoms in Sudan besides developing foreign relations with neighboring countries and the response of the Sudanese government with campaigns launched in dealing with kidnapping incidents at the contacting areas in Southern Sudan, He explained that the most positive points in the report is its condemnation of the rebellion movement led by John Garang and the call for ending the random assassination operations carried out by this movement, its implanting of mines and raping women and compulsory recruitment of children in their army.
