UN condemns Iraqi government terror to oppress opposition

The UN General Assembly on Monday strongly condemned with great majority the human and systematic human rights violations by the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

News reports said that the resolution condemns resorting to fear and intimidation in order to kill any sort of opposition to President Saddam Hussein's rule.

The said resolution was approved by 102 countries and opposed by three countries which are Libya, Mauritania and Sudan and some 60 countries abstained from voting with most of them are Arab and Islamic states.

The resolution strongly condemned the intensive, very grave and systematic violations of human rights and the international law by the Iraqi government.

The UN General Assembly GA, in particular concentrated on oppressing the freedom of thinking, expression and meeting and threats addressed to the exiled opposition members, the disappearance of persons and resorting to physical tortures.

The UN General Assembly also called on Iraq to co-operation with the UN in the area of human rights and in permitting political opposition to express their views freely.
