On releasing arbitrarily held detainees in Sudan

Lawyer al-Tayeb Haroun said on Tuesday that the Sudanese authorities have released several detainees with further effort to release the others left as a result of prolonged detention.
In a statement to the Sudanese daily al-Ayam issued on Tuesday in al-Khartoum, lawyer Haroun said that the operation of releasing the detainees started successively for some time and came at a decision released by the minister of state for justice Amin Benani on that detention is illegal after the elapse of 22 days from the date of detention.
In its meeting, the consultative council of human rights in Sudan discussed the decision of the Human rights third committee at the UN issued in November as well as several issued of concern to the human rights file.
