Somali national reconciliation process continues
Somalia, Politics, 12/5/2000

A great rapprochement has been taken place between the Somali government the opposition leader Hussein Haj Boud, who was among the participants in the preparations for Arta conference in Djibouti and withdrew from this conference in its last days. He also announced his opposition to the results of the reconciliation conference.

Well-informed sources that have links to Hussein Boud said that he had faced a strong opposition for his policies and behavior from the chiefs of his tribe who enjoy strong influences on the course of events. This forced Boud to cling to the desire of his tribe in seeking to maintain reconciliation with the government.

However, if such a reconciliation will succeed, it will mark the beginning for the opposition leaders to join the government as those leaders started to face increasing pressures from their tribes which suffer the consequences of civil wars.
