Arab Committee Drafts Plan for International Action for Backing Intifadah
Regional-Palestine, Politics, 12/4/2000
The Arab committee in charge of following up implementation of resolutions of the recent Arab summit held a meeting at the level of permanent representatives of Arab League member states on Sunday.
Egyptian foreign minister Amr Moussa, who chaired the meeting, told journalists participants focused their discussions on recommendations the committee made during a meeting it held on the sidelines of the Islamic summit, held in Doha in November.
Talks also dealt with preparations for the ministerial meeting of the committee, to be held in Damascus on December 10. Moussa said the participants discussed the dangerous situation in the occupied Arab territories, adding that several recommendations would be referred to the ministerial meeting that would be held in the Syrian capital. He said the committee prepared a draft plan for international action to rally support for the Palestinian uprising that broke out on September 28.
Arab league chief Esmat Abdel Maguid, who took part in the meeting, said the commission called for a meeting of Arab economic ministers within two weeks to discuss mechanisms of securing economic support for the Palestinian people. He said that the supreme administrative committee, entrusted with collecting financial aid for Al-Aqsa and the Intifadah, will hold a meeting at the headquarters of the Islamic development bank in Jeddah this Monday.
