Morocco starts construction for abandoned disabled children
Morocco, Culture, 12/4/2000

Moroccan health minister, Thami El Khyari, launched on Sunday construction works for a shelter for abandoned children who suffer from mental or physical disability.

Italian non-governmental organization "AIBI" is contributing 50% to the $ 1.36 Million-worth project carried out in partnership with the Moroccan League for Children Protection.

Extending over 1,381 square meters, the building, built in the Lalla Meriem center for children, can accommodate 24 children who will receive physical and psychological care at the center.

The Italian association, set up in 1986, is active in the defense of children rights in 16 Latin American, Africa and East European countries. Since it started operation in Morocco in 1993, it has initiated several initiatives of health prevention for children in the Lalla Meriem center and for the schooling of handicapped children.
