Egypt continues efforts to stop violence against Palestinians
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 12/2/2000

gypt, under the leadership of President Hosni Mubarak played an effective role in sparing the Palestinian people the danger of starvation as a result of the Israeli blockade of Palestinian cities since the eruption of the Intifada.

This came in statements by Presidential Political Adviser Osama el-Baz during a visit to Port Said Thursday. He said Egypt took steps to ensure the arrival of medical, food supplies and funds to the Palestinian areas.

"Egypt continues efforts to stop the acts of violence which Israel is committing against defenseless Palestinians," Baz said, adding that Egypt would continue to support Palestinian rights and back the drive to establish a comprehensive and just peace region.

Baz expected the Palestinian and Israeli sides to go back to the negotiating table.
