Reconciliation between Syria and Junblat
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 12/2/2000

The Saudi daily Okaz issued today said that there is a reconciliation process between Syria and the Lebanese parliament member Walid Junblat.

The paper quoted political sources it described as well-informed in Beirut as saying that al-Hariri has succeeded in bringing together Syria and the chairman of the " Democratic al-Leqaa bloc" Walid Junblat, at the good offices with the Syrian vice- President Abdul Halim Khaddam.

The paper added that the reconciliation will be through a visit Junblat will make to Syria during which he will meet with President Bashar al-Assad during the coming weeks, noting that al-Hariri has worked to clarify Junblat's stances and to stress the tactical and strategic alliance with Syria.

The paper made it clear that the reconciliation will be made on the ground that " What was said has been already passed" and that the file of the Syrian presence in Lebanon will be left for the Lebanese government and Junblat will admit that in a clear statement.
