Government adopts law creating social foundation for education staff
Morocco, Education, 12/1/2000
The government adopted on Thursday a law creating a social works foundation of the education and training staff, to which 2% of the education and higher education departments salary mass was allotted.
King Mohammed VI announced last July 30, in the throne speech, the creation of the foundation to cater for social needs of the education staff.
Culture and communication minister, Mohamed Achaari, explained at the end of the government meeting that the institution will be managed in a transparent, efficient and democratic way under state control. He added the foundation will first seek to help teachers buy houses at conditions adapted to their income and offer them a complementary retirement pension and an additional health insurance that covers fees of surgery, transport inside or outside Morocco, life insurance and insurance against total disability.
The foundation will also manage all social services (summer camps, health centers and kindergartens) and grant small loans in emergency cases.
Regarding the institution funding, the minister explained that the 2001 finance law already allocated 336 million DH ($30.4 million) to the foundation. Additional funds will come from subscription fees.
