No initiative on peace agreement between Palestinians, Israelis
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 11/30/2000

Egypt's Foreign Minister Amr Moussa said that no proposal has been put forward for clinching a Palestinian-Israeli peace agreement.

In an interview with United Arab Emirates News Agency WAM, Moussa described as in limb the future of the peacemaking drive, adding that although he is not optimistic, yet he is not pessimistic either.

Moussa pointed out that conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories are deteriorating, confidence is diminishing between Palestinians and Israelis and the role of the peace sponsor is not clear due to many circumstances and reasons.

Asked if he is expecting a new government better than the current one in Israel, Moussa said that the best would be a politician who could have an objective, realistic and strategic view of the peace process and statesman-like perspective, which we have not seen as yet in Israel.

Moussa refused to elaborate on further steps to be taken following the withdrawal of the Egyptian Ambassador from Israel, adding that Egypt takes its decisions when it deems suitable.

As for the steps taken by the follow-up committee set up by the latest Arab Summit under his chairmanship, Minister Moussa said that the committee would meet in Cairo on Sunday on delegates level. He added that Syria will hold a meeting on ministerial level in Damascus in mid-December.
