Mauritania-Israel, Politics, 11/29/2000

Mauritania 's President Mu'weyah Wild Taye' on Tuesday, in the presence of the Israeli ambassador in Nouakchott celebrated his country's 40th independence anniversary and waved his hand with an olive branch for the opposition which protested over the diplomatic relations he held with Israel.

Wild Taye' presided over a large military parade during which he invested some 20 army officers with orders of merit on the occasion of independence anniversary. For the first time the Israeli ambassador in Nouakchott attended the parade.

The Israeli ambassador arrived at the forum accompanied by his guards. He did not greet the Arab ambassadors sitting there and only greeted the ambassadors of Nigeria and the US who were sitting beside him.
