Lebanese sources denies prior contacts between Syria and Berri
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 11/29/2000
A Lebanese political source who has closely link to Damascus denied news that any Syrian official to have had green lighted the Lebanese speaker of parliament Nabih Berri to launch his initiative in Bkerki.
The source told the Kuwaiti daily al-Qabas issued on Tuesday that the only point that Syria agrees on to this effect is Berri's assertion that the redeployment process had started in April.
The source stressed that Damascus was actually annoyed of the initiative, noting that what had happened in Bjerki seemed as if Bkerki has replaced Baabda presidential palace in taking strategic decisions.
The source stressed that Syria had not and will not deal only with the Lebanese state establishments.
The source revealed that the sides which tried to mediate on this matter were briefed on that Syria stance, adding that the same sides conveyed proposals that go beyond the question of the Syrian presence, call for halting the Hizbullah operations and to release an Amnesty including Samir Geagea and all files pertaining to Michael Aoun..
